4. Who is your audience?

Once upon a time, most of the people "surfing the web" were high school and college students. Nowadays, however, seniors, boomers and people of all ages are discovering the vast wealth of information and services available through the Internet.

As with any other marketing medium, it is crucial to ensure that you target your web site to the appropriate audience. A small corner grocery store catering mostly to people within walking distance may be well advised not to bother putting up a flashy e-commerce site! Likewise, a law firm on Wall Street would probably not be furthering their interests all that much by linking their site to the latest rap star's fan site (unless of course their specialty is entertainment law!)
